Flood Damaged Heating and Cooling Equipment

The recent deluge of rain that has hit Chicago multiple times this summer has caused a great deal of flood damage throughout Chicago. Because many basements were flooded untold number of furnaces and air conditioners may have been damaged by flood waters. The Gas Appliance Manufacturers Association is recommending that heating, cooling equipment or water heaters be replaced and not repaired as a matter of safety.

If in fact you intend to have your furnace, air conditioner or water heater repaired choose a qualified, licensed HVAC contractor. Again this is to help avoid injuries and is for safety reasons when involving gas or even electrical equipment. The control valves on many units may deteriorate over time even if it is not immediately recognizable after flood conditions have been remedied. A licensed heating and cooling contractor is trained to identify potential issues and problems with your furnace, water heater or air conditioner and can rely on their experience to make effective and safe repairs if possible. Do not attempt to make repairs yourself, if considering a replacement unit for our furnace or air conditioning system check to see if there are any aid programs available if your area is declared a disaster area.
